Requires healthcare providers to document a diagnosis of sickle cell disease on immunization records in certain
circumstances
Proposed law provides that the parent or guardian of a student with sickle cell disease may submit to the administration of
the student’s school a sickle cell disease management and treatment plan developed by the student’s parent and treating
physician for review and use by school employees with whom the student has regular interaction. The plan shall include the
following: 1) The health care accommodations the student may require at school or while participating in a school activity,
including but not limited to unrestricted access to the restroom and to adequate hydration and limitations on required
physical activity, and 2) signatures from the students parent or guardian and from the treating physician.

EXPENDITURE EXPLANATION
There is no anticipated direct material effect on expenditures within the immunization program in the Office of Public Health
as a result of this measure. Proposed legislation authorizes the parent to submit a treatment plan to a student’s school that
ensures proper hydration, unlimited access to a restroom, and limitations on physical activity for individuals with sickle cell
disease.
REVENUE EXPLANATION
There is no anticipated direct material effect on governmental revenues as a result of this measure.
