RÉSUMÉ DIGEST
ACT 555 (HB 328) 2024 Regular Session McFarland
Existing law provides for a minimum number of assistant district attorneys in each judicial
district and in the parish of Orleans, and further provides for a fixed total salary amount per
assistant district attorney which the state treasurer may pay upon the warrant of each assistant
district attorney.
Existing law provides that, notwithstanding the minimum number of assistant district
attorneys permitted under existing law in Orleans Parish and in the 19th Judicial District, the
district attorney for the parish of Orleans and the 19th Judicial District may reallocate by
combining or dividing the fixed total amount of annual salary permitted to be paid to all
assistant district attorneys in that jurisdiction in any lawful manner the district attorney
deems appropriate. Existing law further provides that the district attorney in Orleans Parish
and the 19th Judicial District shall certify to the state treasurer the amount of annual salary
payable upon warrant for each of his assistant district attorneys.
New law permits all judicial districts to reallocate by combining or dividing the fixed total
amount of annual salaries permitted to be paid to all assistant district attorneys in any lawful
manner the district attorney deems appropriate.
