ACT 471 (HB 323) 2024 Regular Session Freiberg
Existing law requires parish governing authorities organized under the police jury system of
government to provide for the method and amount of compensation for police jurors.
Provides that police jurors shall not be paid for more than 144 days in any one year and no
police juror shall be compensated for more than 12 meetings per month, or, in lieu of such
per diem, the police jury may elect to be paid on a salary basis. The maximum salary
allowable is $1,600 per month for each police juror. Authorizes a police jury to allow for an
increase in the police jury president's salary in an amount not to exceed $400 per month in
addition to the salary established for police jurors.
Existing law provides that in lieu of the compensation authorized by existing law, each
member of the governing authority of East Baton Rouge Parish may receive a travel
allowance for in-parish travel which includes payment for a combination of travel and car
allowance, subject to approval of the governing authority. Prior law provided that the
maximum travel allowance amount was $800 per month. New law increases the maximum
amount from $800 to $1,500 per month.
Effective July 1, 2024.
