House Bill No. by Representative Freiberg amends R.S. 33:1233(B) to increase the travel allowance for members of the East Baton Rouge Parish governing authority. The bill replaces the previous maximum travel allowance of eight hundred dollars with a new maximum of one thousand five hundred dollars per month for each member. This allowance is intended to cover in-parish travel expenses and will be provided upon approval by a majority of the local governing body following a public hearing.

The effective date for this bill is set for July 1, 2024. If the bill is vetoed by the governor but later approved by the legislature, it will still take effect on the same date or the day following legislative approval, whichever is later.
