This bill amends R.S. 18:536 regarding the notice of changes to polling places in Louisiana. It requires that when a parish governing authority or president changes a polling place, they must provide adequate notice not only of the location change but also include the reason for the change. This notice must be given to each registered voter at that polling place and to each candidate, if applicable. Additionally, the governing authority is mandated to inform the secretary of state about all polling place changes and the reasons for each change, which will be listed on the secretary of state's website in a sortable format.
Furthermore, the bill allows parish registrars of voters or clerks of court with websites to publish a list of polling place changes and their reasons on their own sites, along with a link to the secretary of state's website. Each website must also provide instructions for voters on how to subscribe to receive electronic notifications regarding polling place changes. The effective date for this legislation is set for July 1, 2025.
