This bill amends R.S. 18:536 regarding the notice of changes to polling places in Louisiana. It requires that when a parish governing authority or president changes a polling place, they must provide adequate notice not only of the location change but also include the reason for the change. This notice must be given to each registered voter at the affected polling place and to each candidate, if applicable. Additionally, the governing authority is mandated to inform the secretary of state about all polling place changes along with the reasons for each change.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that the secretary of state will list these changes and their reasons on their website in a sortable format. It also allows parish registrars of voters or clerks of court with websites to publish a list of polling place changes and their reasons, along with a link to the secretary of state's website. Each website must provide instructions for voters on how to subscribe to receive electronic notifications regarding polling place changes. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
