This bill amends the existing law regarding the Early Childhood Care and Education Commission in Louisiana. It increases the commission's membership from forty-one to forty-five members and introduces new representatives from a nongovernmental economic development organization and a child advocacy organization. Additionally, it includes the president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry and the executive director of the Child Care Association of Louisiana as members. The bill also establishes that members will serve a term of four years, with the stipulation that terms for members appointed by elected officials cannot extend beyond the term of the appointing authority.
Furthermore, the bill modifies the quorum requirements for the commission. Instead of a majority of the members constituting a quorum, the new language specifies that an affirmative vote of a majority of the members present and voting is necessary for any action taken by the commission. The commission will continue to be based in Baton Rouge but retains the ability to hold public hearings in other locations throughout the state.
