ACT 417 (HB 181) 2024 Regular Session Brass
Existing law (R.S. 38:1751(A)) authorizes the governing authority of a parish to create
gravity drainage districts from lands which drain by gravity.
Existing law (R.S. 38:1759(A)) requires the governing authority organizing a gravity
drainage district to appoint five commissioners for each district.
New law provides an exception for the boards of commissioners of gravity drainage districts
in Ascension Parish.
New law provides that the board of commissioners of East Ascension Consolidated Gravity
Drainage District No. 1 consists of the Ascension Parish council members whose districts
include portions of the gravity drainage district.
New law provides that the board of commissioners of West Ascension Consolidated Gravity
Drainage District No. 1 consists of the following three members:
(1) The member of the Ascension Parish council whose council district includes all or
the larger part of the drainage district.
(2) The mayor of Donaldsonville or his designee.
(3) A member appointed by the Ascension Parish council.
New law requires the Ascension Parish president to administer all services and work
furnished by the gravity drainage districts in the parish using the parish's departments and
agencies.
Effective August 1, 2024.
