This bill enacts new provisions under R.S. 16:205 and 266, specifically addressing group health insurance coverage for eligible retired employees of the district attorney's offices in the parishes of Winn and Sabine. It mandates that if a group health insurer offers a health insurance plan to a retired employee, the respective district attorney's office will cover the premium upon the employee reaching retirement age, in accordance with the Parochial Employees' Retirement System of Louisiana. If such a plan is not available, the office is required to pay up to 100% of the premium for a comparable health insurance plan chosen by the retired employee.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that once the retired employee becomes eligible for Medicare, they must enroll in Medicare and seek a supplemental plan. The district attorney's office will continue to cover the premium for either the current health insurance or the supplemental plan that is comparable to the existing coverage. To qualify as a retired employee under this legislation, individuals must have completed twenty-five consecutive years of employment with the district attorney's office at the time of their retirement.
