This bill enacts new provisions in Louisiana law regarding group health insurance coverage for eligible retired employees of the district attorney's offices in the parishes of Sabine and Winn. Specifically, it establishes that if a group health insurer offers a health insurance plan to a retired employee, the respective district attorney's office will cover the premium upon the employee reaching retirement age, in accordance with the Parochial Employees' Retirement System of Louisiana. If no such plan is offered, the office will pay up to 100% of the premium for a comparable plan chosen by the retired employee. Additionally, once the retired employee becomes eligible for Medicare, they must secure Medicare and a supplemental plan, with the district attorney's office continuing to cover the premium for either the current health insurance or the supplemental plan.
The bill also specifies that a retired employee must have completed twenty-five years of consecutive employment with the district attorney's office to qualify for these benefits. This legislation aims to ensure that retired employees of the district attorney's offices in these parishes have access to health insurance coverage that reflects their years of service and provides financial support during retirement.
