This bill enacts R.S. 13:5554.13 to establish the LaSalle Parish Sheriff Retired Employees Insurance Fund (LSREIF), aimed at assisting with the payment of group insurance premiums for eligible retired sheriffs and deputy sheriffs in LaSalle Parish. The fund will be financed through discretionary contributions from the sheriff's office and will be invested in the Louisiana Asset Management Pool. The earnings from these investments can be withdrawn solely for covering insurance premium costs or legal representation costs for the LSREIF board, provided that the total amount in the fund reaches at least $2.5 million before any earnings can be accessed.

Additionally, the bill mandates annual audits of the fund by the legislative auditor, with the costs covered by the sheriff's general fund. An investment advisory board will be established to provide recommendations on fund investments, consisting of the sheriff or a designee, one retired sheriff or deputy sheriff, and one active deputy sheriff, all appointed by the sheriff. The board will elect a chairperson and must fill any vacancies within a specified timeframe.
