ACT 672 (HB 13) 2024 Regular Session Emerson
Existing law provides for governance of the Firefighters' Retirement System by a board of
trustees that includes the following:
(1) Two members of the Professional Fire Fighters Assoc. elected by the officers of the
association.
(2) Two mayors appointed by the La. Municipal Assoc.
(3) A member of the House Committee on Retirement appointed by the speaker.
(4) The chairman of the Senate Committee on Retirement or his designee.
(5) A retiree of the system elected by the retired members and beneficiaries.
(6) The state treasurer or his designee.
(7) The commissioner of administration or his designee.
Provides that the board also includes two fire chiefs who are members of the La. Fire Chiefs
Assoc. and selected by the officers of the association. New law adds an additional fire chief
selected by association officers to the board.
Effective August 1, 2024.
