This resolution commends Sheriff Sid Gautreaux and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office (EBRSO) Narcotics Division for their exceptional efforts in combating the fentanyl crisis in the Greater Baton Rouge Metro Area. Since his election in 2007, Sheriff Gautreaux has prioritized the investigation and prosecution of drug dealers, particularly focusing on the dangers posed by fentanyl and its analogues, which have significantly increased overdose deaths in Louisiana. The resolution highlights the proactive measures taken by the EBRSO, including enhanced drug enforcement strategies developed in collaboration with Captain Tanner Jenkins, which have led to substantial seizures of various lethal drugs and firearms.

The resolution acknowledges the impressive results of the EBRSO's narcotics division, which has conducted numerous operations resulting in the seizure of large quantities of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and other dangerous substances, as well as the arrest of numerous felony offenders. It emphasizes that the division's focus is on targeting drug dealers rather than users, aiming to disrupt the supply chain of these harmful substances. The Senate expresses its gratitude for the dedication and hard work of Sheriff Gautreaux, Captain Jenkins, and all personnel involved in these critical law enforcement efforts. A copy of the resolution will be sent to both Sheriff Gautreaux and Captain Jenkins.
