He was also appointed as Louisiana's Governor's Highway Safety Representative in 1996, where he made significant contributions to highway safety legislation and advocacy, earning numerous awards for his efforts, including the J. Stannard Baker Award and the Highway Safety Partner Award from MADD.
The resolution highlights Jim's dedication to improving highway safety in Louisiana, his leadership roles on national boards, and his commitment to saving lives through effective legislation. It also acknowledges his personal life, including his love for family, golf, and supporting the LSU Tigers. Jim is survived by his stepson, grandchildren, and other family members, and the resolution concludes with a request to transmit a copy to his stepson, Phillip Melancon.
