The Louisiana Legislature has passed a resolution commending the Louisiana Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (LSDAR) for receiving the national award for the Most Outstanding Service in Seconds State Project by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). Founded in 1890, NSDAR is a nonprofit organization focused on historic preservation, education, and patriotism, with over 190,000 members worldwide. The LSDAR, consisting of 44 chapters across Louisiana, initiated a project called "Caps to Benches," which involved collecting plastic caps and lids to be recycled into park benches for veterans' homes. The project exceeded expectations, resulting in the collection of over 3,400 pounds of plastic, allowing for the installation of three benches at each veterans' home in the state.
The resolution highlights the dedication and commitment of LSDAR members in supporting veterans and enhancing their living environments. The recognition of their efforts will be formally acknowledged during the 132nd Continental Congress of the NSDAR in June 2023. The Louisiana Legislature expresses its congratulations and appreciation for the contributions of the LSDAR and directs that copies of the resolution be sent to key members of the organization.
