House Resolution No. by Representative Freeman commends the Isidore Newman School speech and debate team for their outstanding achievement in being named the Louisiana High School Speech League 2023 state champions. The team, consisting of thirty-seven members, showcased exceptional talent at the LHSSL State Tournament of Champions held in Lafayette, Louisiana, where they had fifteen finalists and sixteen semifinalists in various speech events. Notable individual accomplishments include Jackson Dirks winning first place in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking and Elizabeth Elliot securing first in Varsity Impromptu Speaking.
Additionally, the team excelled in debate categories, achieving four-way co-champions in Policy Debate and three-way co-champions in Advanced Lincoln Douglas Debate. The Policy Debate co-champions included teams led by Grace Carmody, Aria Jolly, Elizabeth Elliot, Hudson Nguyen, Caroline Carmody, Bryce Martin, Nick Rezza, and Jackson Dirks, while Andrew Brandt, Sam Rice, and Owen Dodd were recognized in Advanced Lincoln Douglas Debate. The resolution highlights the remarkable academic abilities of the team members and expresses hopes for their continued success and pursuit of excellence.
