Senate Bill No. 298, also known as "Lorri Burgess' Law," mandates the Louisiana Department of Health to conduct an annual review of Medicaid coverage for sickle cell disease. This review will assess all medications, treatments, and services available under the Louisiana Medicaid program for individuals diagnosed with sickle cell disease. The department is tasked with determining the adequacy of current coverage and identifying any additional treatments or services that may be necessary to meet the needs of these enrollees.
Furthermore, the bill requires the Department of Health to solicit public input during the review process, particularly from individuals and groups knowledgeable about sickle cell disease treatment. By January 15 of each year, starting in 2023, the department must submit a detailed report of its findings and recommendations to relevant legislative committees and publish this report on its website for public access.
