This bill authorizes the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to establish and implement a comprehensive wellness program aimed at safeguarding the health and resilience of their officers and employees. The program will focus on mental health and suicide prevention, physical fitness and injury prevention, relational wellness, and financial stability. Additionally, certified law enforcement personnel from other state agencies will be permitted to participate in these wellness programs.
To finance the implementation of these programs, the bill mandates annual transfers of $350,000 from the state highway fund to the Kansas Highway Patrol operations fund and $150,000 from the state general fund to a designated fund of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, starting on July 1, 2026, and continuing each year thereafter. This funding is intended to support the comprehensive wellness initiatives for both agencies, thereby enhancing their overall mission effectiveness.
