The bill mandates that the Secretary of Corrections assist inmates in obtaining essential identification and employment-related documentation prior to their release from custody. Specifically, within nine months of an inmate's release, the Secretary must determine if the inmate possesses a certified birth certificate, a social security card, and a driver's license or state-issued identification. If the inmate lacks any of these documents, the Secretary is required to make reasonable efforts to provide them. Additionally, the Secretary must supply inmates with vocational training records, work records, educational certifications, and a resume detailing their skills and trades.

However, the provisions of this bill do not apply to inmates who are being released to another jurisdiction or those deemed physically or mentally unable to return to the workforce upon release. The bill emphasizes the importance of preparing inmates for successful reintegration into society by ensuring they have the necessary documentation to secure employment and establish their identity. The act will take effect upon its publication in the statute book.
