This bill authorizes licensed private psychiatric hospitals in Kansas to maintain a stock supply of emergency medication kits for pharmaceutical emergencies. The kits must be approved by the hospital's medical staff and pharmacist and can only be used in emergencies under the supervision of a prescriber and a pharmacist. The pharmacist-in-charge is responsible for the control and accountability of the kit, which may include controlled substances, with a pharmaceutical services committee determining the specific types and quantities of these substances. The administration of any controlled substances must comply with the uniform controlled substances act.
Additionally, the bill mandates that the secretary and the state board of pharmacy jointly adopt necessary rules and regulations regarding the contents, control, accountability, recordkeeping, and storage of the emergency medication kits. The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2027, following its publication in the statute book.
