This bill mandates that all individual or group health insurance policies, medical service plans, and related contracts in Kansas must provide coverage for the diagnosis and prescribed treatment of Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) and Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS) for policies delivered, issued, amended, or renewed on or after January 1, 2027. The bill also stipulates that the coverage provided during the health plan coverage year from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2027, will satisfy existing requirements under Kansas law regarding health coverage.
Additionally, the bill amends existing statutes to remove certain provisions and clarify the applicability of the new coverage requirements. Specifically, it deletes references to previous years and updates the reporting requirements for the Kansas state employees health care commission, which must submit a report on the impact and utilization of PANS and PANDAS coverage by March 1, 2027. The legislature will then consider whether to continue this mandated coverage based on the report's findings.
