This bill amends K.S.A. 2025 Supp. 72-5179 to enhance career readiness assessments for high school students in Kansas. It mandates that the state board of education provide the ACT college entrance exam and the ACT workkeys assessments to students in grades 11 and 12, as well as the pre-ACT exam for ninth graders, without any fees for the students. The bill also stipulates that participation in these assessments is optional and requires the Kansas Department of Education and school districts to publish information about the exams on their websites.
Additionally, the bill introduces a provision that requires postsecondary educational institutions to adopt policies allowing students to use credentials earned through the ACT workkeys assessments, or similar assessments, as transferable credit toward a technical degree. This transferability is to be based on recommendations from the American Council on Education's national guide. The existing section of K.S.A. 2025 Supp. 72-5179 is repealed, and the bill will take effect upon publication in the statute book.
