This bill amends K.S.A. 22-2804 to require individuals convicted of certain serious felonies to be held without bond in the county jail until sentencing. Specifically, it targets those convicted of off-grid felonies, person felonies ranked in severity levels 1 through 4, and drug felonies ranked in severity levels 1 and 2. The bill stipulates that if a person was released on bond prior to trial, that bond will be revoked, and they will be remanded to jail without bond. If they were in custody without bond before trial, their bond will be modified to ensure they remain in jail until sentencing.

Additionally, the bill repeals the existing section of K.S.A. 22-2804 and makes minor adjustments to the language regarding applications for release after a conviction and appeal. It clarifies that any appearance bond required under the new provisions must be filed in the court from which the appeal was taken. The act will take effect upon its publication in the statute book.
