The bill amends K.S.A. 2025 Supp. 74-1112 to require advance practice registered nurses and registered nurse anesthetists to undergo a criminal history check as part of their application for nursing licensure. The existing language that referred to an "application" has been deleted, and the bill now specifies that the board of nursing may require applicants to be fingerprinted and submit to both state and national criminal history record checks. Additionally, the board is authorized to set a fee for fingerprinting, which will be used to cover the costs associated with these checks.

Furthermore, the bill establishes a criminal background and fingerprinting fund within the state treasury, which will be used to pay the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for processing fingerprints and conducting background checks for the board of nursing. The fund will be managed by the board, and all expenditures will follow the appropriate legislative procedures. The existing section of K.S.A. 2025 Supp. 74-1112 is repealed, and the act will take effect upon its publication in the statute book.
