The resolution commemorates Dr. David J. Spittal's retirement as President of MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) after a significant tenure that began on January 17, 2012. During his leadership, Dr. Spittal implemented transformative changes that resulted in MNU receiving a 10-year reaffirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. He also initiated the annual President's Honors event, which raised nearly $8 million for student scholarships, and secured a $10 million Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant from the U.S. Department of Education to enhance various academic and support programs.

Under Dr. Spittal's guidance, MNU experienced substantial growth and community engagement, earning him recognition as the Olathe Chamber of Commerce's 2024 Citizen of the Year. Nearly 18,000 students graduated during his presidency, contributing to various fields across Kansas. The resolution expresses gratitude for Dr. Spittal's dedication and lasting impact on the lives of many Kansans and directs the Secretary of the Senate to send copies of the resolution to relevant parties.
