The resolution recognizes the 40th anniversary of the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station, which has been operational in Burlington, Kansas, since its commercial launch on September 3, 1985. The facility, licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, is Kansas' only nuclear power plant and has produced over 345 million megawatt hours of electricity, supplying power to more than 800,000 homes across 89 counties in the state. Wolf Creek, which is primarily owned by Evergy, generates approximately 20.7% of Kansas' electricity and 36% of its emission-free electricity, contributing significantly to the state's energy security.

The resolution also highlights the plant's impressive safety record, having surpassed 10 million safe work hours without a lost-time incident as of January 2025. Additionally, Wolf Creek has a substantial economic impact on Coffey County and surrounding areas, contributing over $165 million through payroll, taxes, and local purchases. The House of Representatives of the State of Kansas expresses its gratitude and congratulations to the employees and owners of Wolf Creek for their dedication and leadership in providing safe and reliable energy to the community.
