The resolution recognizes the 40th anniversary of the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station, which has been operational in Burlington, Kansas, since its commercial launch on September 3, 1985. The facility, licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, is Kansas' only nuclear power plant and has generated over 345 million megawatt hours of electricity, providing power to more than 800,000 homes across 89 counties in the state. Wolf Creek, which is primarily owned by Evergy, contributes significantly to Kansas' energy supply, producing 20.7% of the state's electricity and 36% of its emission-free electricity.

The resolution also highlights the plant's impressive safety record, having achieved over 10 million safe work hours without a lost-time incident as of January 2025. Additionally, Wolf Creek plays a vital role in the local economy, generating an economic impact of more than $165 million through payroll, taxes, and purchases. The House of Representatives of the State of Kansas expresses its gratitude and congratulations to the employees and owners of Wolf Creek for their dedication and leadership in providing safe and reliable energy, thereby enhancing the energy security of the state.
