The resolution recognizes the 40th anniversary of the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station, which is located in Burlington, Kansas. The facility received its operating license from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on March 11, 1985, and began commercial operations on September 3, 1985. As Kansas' only operational nuclear power plant, Wolf Creek has generated over 345 million megawatt hours of electricity since its inception, providing power to more than 800,000 homes across 89 counties in the state. It is primarily owned by Evergy and contributes significantly to Kansas' energy supply, producing 20.7% of the state's electricity and 36% of its emission-free electricity.

The resolution commends the employees and owners of Wolf Creek for their dedication and leadership in delivering safe and reliable energy to Kansans, which enhances the state's energy security. Additionally, it highlights the plant's impressive safety record, having surpassed 10 million safe work hours without a lost-time incident, and its substantial economic impact on Coffey County and surrounding areas, amounting to over $165 million through payroll, taxes, and purchases. The resolution was sponsored by Representatives Mark Schreiber and Brad Barrett and was adopted by the House of Representatives of the State of Kansas.
