The bill authorizes the state historical society of Kansas to convey approximately 11.97 acres of real estate located in Johnson County to the Shawnee Tribe. This conveyance will be executed via a quitclaim deed by the executive director of the state historical society without the need for appraisal, bidding, or publication, and it will not be subject to the provisions of K.S.A. 75-3043a. The deed will include restrictive covenants that prohibit any gaming or gambling activities on the property. Additionally, the conveyance is contingent upon the review and approval of the attorney general.
The Shawnee Tribe is responsible for all costs associated with the conveyance and must grant the state a historic preservation easement in accordance with federal preservation laws. The Tribe is also required to engage in consultations with other federally recognized tribes regarding the rehabilitation of the property and to provide updates on their efforts every two years for a decade to the joint committee on state-tribal relations. The bill will take effect upon its publication in the statute book.
