The bill establishes a prohibition on the sale, use, or distribution of seeds coated with neonicotinoid pesticides, specifically listing active ingredients such as Clothianidin, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam, dinotefuran, and acetamiprid. This prohibition will take effect on January 1, 2028, unless the governor issues an executive order to suspend it. The governor can suspend the prohibition for up to one year if it is determined, in consultation with the secretary of agriculture, that there is a lack of commercially available untreated seeds or if purchasing untreated seeds would cause undue financial hardship to agricultural producers.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that any executive order suspending the prohibition must specify the type of seed affected. This legislation is intended to be supplemental to existing laws regarding agriculture and pesticides in Kansas. The act will take effect upon its publication in the statute book.
