This bill amends K.S.A. 20-2201 to modify the composition of the judicial council in Kansas. The current membership of four resident lawyers will be replaced with one resident lawyer from each congressional district, thereby increasing representation from the legal community across the state. The bill retains the existing positions of a supreme court justice, a court of appeals judge, and two district judges from different judicial districts, while also including the chairpersons of the judiciary committees from both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Additionally, the bill specifies that the changes to the council's membership will not affect current members appointed before July 1, 2025. As vacancies arise after this date, new appointments will adhere to the updated structure. The existing section of K.S.A. 20-2201 is repealed, and the act will take effect upon its publication in the statute book.
