The bill aims to enhance student safety by allowing school districts in Kansas to implement standardized firearm safety education programs. It mandates the state board of education to establish curriculum guidelines for these programs, which will include accident prevention strategies. The guidelines specify that students in kindergarten through fifth grade will participate in the Eddie Eagle GunSafe program offered by the National Rifle Association or its successor. For students in grades six through eight, the options include either the Eddie Eagle GunSafe program or the Hunter Education in Our Schools program provided by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. High school students in grades nine through twelve will be required to take the Hunter Education in Our Schools program.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that if a school board chooses to offer firearm safety education, it must adhere to the established guidelines and ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate in the course. The act will take effect upon its publication in the statute book.
