This bill amends K.S.A. 65-1158 to authorize registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) to prescribe, procure, and administer drugs in accordance with their education and qualifications. Specifically, the bill allows CRNAs to prescribe durable medical equipment and any drug, except for anesthetic agents, which they may not prescribe, procure, or administer. Additionally, the bill stipulates that CRNAs must register with the federal drug enforcement administration to prescribe controlled substances and comply with relevant federal requirements. The bill also clarifies that CRNAs cannot perform or induce abortions or prescribe drugs for abortions.
Furthermore, the bill updates the language regarding the role of CRNAs within healthcare teams, changing the term "health care" to "healthcare." It also repeals the existing section of K.S.A. 65-1158, effectively replacing it with the new provisions outlined in the bill. The act will take effect upon its publication in the statute book.
