This bill amends K.S.A. 65-1158 to authorize registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) to prescribe, procure, and administer drugs in accordance with their education and qualifications. Specifically, the bill allows CRNAs to prescribe durable medical equipment and any drug, except for anesthetic agents, which they may only administer under the order of a physician or dentist. Additionally, the bill stipulates that CRNAs must register with the federal drug enforcement administration to prescribe controlled substances and comply with relevant federal regulations. It also clarifies that CRNAs are prohibited from performing or inducing abortions or prescribing drugs for that purpose.

Furthermore, the bill repeals the existing section of K.S.A. 65-1158 and makes a minor adjustment to the language regarding the role of CRNAs within a healthcare team, changing "health care" to "healthcare." The act is set to take effect upon its publication in the statute book.
