This bill amends K.S.A. 8-1909 to provide exceptions to gross weight limitations for vehicles transporting grain and other agricultural goods during the normal harvest season. Specifically, it allows vehicles carrying these products to exceed the maximum weight limits by 10% for those with tandem, triple, or quad axles, and by 12.5% for vehicles with a single rear axle, with a maximum gross weight not exceeding 90,000 pounds. However, this provision does not apply to the national system of interstate and defense highways. Additionally, the bill clarifies that vehicles designed for transporting property or 10 or more persons may be subjected to safety investigations upon registration.

The bill also includes several deletions from the existing law, such as the removal of specific language regarding the use of vehicles for transportation to construction sites and the definition of "dump semitrailer." Furthermore, it allows vehicles powered primarily by natural gas to exceed weight limits by an amount equal to the difference between the weight of their natural gas tank and a comparable diesel tank, up to a maximum gross weight of 82,000 pounds. The existing section of K.S.A. 8-1909 is repealed, and the act will take effect upon publication in the statute book.
