This bill amends K.S.A. 8-1909 to provide exceptions to gross weight limitations for vehicles transporting grain and other agricultural goods. Specifically, it allows vehicles exclusively carrying these products during the normal harvest season to exceed the maximum weight limits by up to 10% for vehicles with tandem, triple, or quad axles, and by 12.5% for vehicles with a single rear axle, with a maximum gross weight not exceeding 90,000 pounds. However, this provision does not apply to the national system of interstate and defense highways. Additionally, the bill clarifies that certain vehicles used for transporting materials for highway maintenance or construction are not exempt from axle weight regulations.

The bill also includes several deletions from the existing law, such as the removal of specific language regarding the use of vehicles for transportation and the definition of "dump semitrailer." Furthermore, it introduces a provision allowing vehicles powered primarily by natural gas to exceed weight limits up to 82,000 pounds based on the weight difference between natural gas and diesel fueling systems. The existing section of K.S.A. 8-1909 is repealed, and the act will take effect upon publication in the statute book.
