Dear Senator Baumgardner:
SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for SB 185 by Senator Holscher
In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning SB 185 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.
SB 185 would authorize a teacher and a student to serve as non-voting members of boards
of education. Any teacher serving as a board member may be compensated from the school district
in their capacity as a teacher, but not receive compensation for duties performed as a board
member. In addition, a teacher could not participate as a board member in any teacher contract
negotiations.
According to the Department of Education, any fiscal effect on administrative cost for
school districts would be negligible.
