1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION recognizing the Madison Police
2 Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
3 Whereas, Early on the morning of July 3, 2022, an
4 apartment fire broke out in the city of Madison;
5 Whereas, Five children and one adult were trapped on the
6 second floor of the burning building, and with the stairway
7 blocked by flames, they were forced to break a window and
8 jump;
9 Whereas, The responding officers were able to safely catch
10 each individual after they leaped;
11 Whereas, The officers responding from the Madison Police
12 Department were Kyle Cutshaw, Ricky Harris, Bruce Heaton,
13 Cody Lewis, Nichole Midgett, Josh Nolan, Jordan Perry,

1 Wayne Phillips, Kyle Potter, Shawn Scudder, Curtis Shelpmen,
2 Jared Sweet, Kayla Taylor-Moore, and Phillip Wimpee;
3 Whereas, The officer responding from the Jefferson County
4 Sheriff's Department was Deputy Travis Conover; and
5 Whereas, The House of Representatives honors these men
6 and women for serving their community by saving five children,
7 aged 3 to 13, and an adult from a burning building: Therefore,
8 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
9 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
10 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
11 recognizes the Madison Police Department and Jefferson
12 County Sheriff's Department.
13 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
14 Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to State
15 Representative Randy Frye for distribution.
