Summary of Legislation: This bill requires the State Department of Health (IDOH) to report annually to
the Legislative Council on maternal morbidity from postpartum complications.
Effective Date: July 1, 2022.
Explanation of State Expenditures: The IDOH may experience an increase in agency workload to review
hospital discharge data for maternal morbidity cases and to report aggregate data to the Legislative Council
each year. These activities are expected to be completed within existing staffing and resource levels without
additional appropriations. [The IDOH currently receives appropriations for administrative expenses in a
dedicated agency fund.]
