1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring the Rensselaer
2 Volunteer Fire Department for 125 years of service.
3 Whereas, A small group assembled in 1896 to form the
4 Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Company, making it one of the
5 oldest regularly operating volunteer fire departments in
6 Indiana;
7 Whereas, In addition to their incredible hard work, the fire
8 department volunteers still find time to interact with their
9 community through fish fries, pancake breakfasts, and the
10 Burgers for Badges event;
11 Whereas, The Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department hosts
12 many training opportunities for the public and fellow first
13 responders ranging from water rescue training to posting
14 public service announcements and reminders on fire safety on

1 the department's Facebook page;
2 Whereas, The brave men and women of the Rensselaer
3 Volunteer Fire Department have demonstrated professionalism,
4 dedication, and honorable service to the city of Rensselaer and
5 the surrounding communities for 125 years;
6 Whereas, Due to the protection of the Rensselaer Volunteer
7 Fire Department, all of the citizens of Rensselaer and the
8 surrounding communities enjoy the security of knowing that fire
9 protection and emergency medical services are readily
10 available when needed;
11 Whereas, As a result of this visionary group of dedicated fire
12 service volunteers, countless lives, homes, and businesses have
13 been protected and saved from the ravages of fire and natural
14 disasters. Today, the city of Rensselaer is a much safer place to
15 live, work, and raise a family;
16 Whereas, The Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department, the
17 City of Rensselaer, and the state of Indiana will celebrate the
18 125th anniversary and honor Rensselaer's firefighters past and
19 present on May 8, 2021, at the fire department; and
20 Whereas, The distinguished service and sacrifice provided
21 by the members of the Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department
22 for the past 125 years has brought pride and honor to the city
23 of Rensselaer and the state of Indiana: Therefore,
24 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
25 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
26 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
27 honors the Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department for 125 years
28 of service to the community.
29 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
30 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
31 office of State Representative Douglas Gutwein for distribution.
