SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating the United
2 States Tennis Association ("USTA") on its 140th anniversary.
3 Whereas, On May 21, 1881, the USTA, originally known as
4 the United States National Lawn Tennis Association, was
5 founded in New York City, New York, to create rules and
6 standards for the emerging game of lawn tennis;
7 Whereas, The USTA is the nonprofit, national governing
8 body for tennis in the United States, and leads the promotion
9 and growth of the sport at every level of play, from beginners
10 to professionals at the US Open;
11 Whereas, The USTA is the largest tennis organization in the
12 world, with over 700,000 members from every corner of the
13 country;
14 Whereas, The USTA proudly partners with local tennis
15 programs to showcase the important health, social, and
16 educational benefits of tennis, and make the sport available to
17 everyone, regardless of age, environment, condition, or ability,
18 through its USTA Adaptive grants;

1 Whereas, By increasing the accessibility of tennis for
2 Hoosiers of all ages and ability, the USTA has contributed to
3 making Hoosier communities happier and healthier; and
4 Whereas, On May 21st, tennis organizations across the
5 Midwest will celebrate the 140th USTA anniversary by hosting
6 a "Play Tennis Midwest Day" to bring current players together
7 on the court and to introduce the sport to a new generation of
8 athletes: Therefore,
9 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
10 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
11 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate congratulates the
12 United States Tennis Association on its 140th anniversary.
13 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
14 to transmit copies of this Resolution to the USTA Midwest
15 Office.
