Road 500 E in Cass County to US 31 in Miami County as "The

                 SENATE CONCURRENT
                   RESOLUTION No. 8
 1      A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
 2   Department of Transportation to rename a section of State Road
 3   218 from County Road 500 E in Cass County to US 31 in
 4   Miami County as the "The Honorable Richard A. Maughmer
 5   Highway".
 6      Whereas, Judge Richard Maughmer was born on December
 7   2, 1953, in Cass County, Indiana, to Ned and Janice
 8   Maughmer;
 9      Whereas, On September 16, 2019, Judge Maughmer passed
10   away at the age of 65;
11       Whereas, Judge Maughmer graduated from Lewis Cass
12   High School in 1972, and shortly thereafter joined the United
13   States Air Force;
14       Whereas, Judge Maughmer continued to serve in the United
15   States Air Force for 37 years in both active duty and in reserve
16   capacity, and he retired with the rank of colonel in 2009;
17      Whereas, Alongside his military service, Judge Maughmer
18   began working in the Cass County Prosecutor's Office in 1983,
19   and in 1986, Governor Robert Orr appointed him as Cass
20   County Prosecutor;
21       Whereas, Judge Maughmer joined the bench in 2001, where
22   he went on to serve the people of Cass County for almost two
23   decades;

 1       Whereas, Judge Maughmer was active in developing the
 2   legal community and advancing the profession through his
 3   service as the Chair of the Judicial Administration Committee,
 4   as member on the Board of Directors of the Judicial
 5   Conference of Indiana, and as a member of the Indiana Judges
 6   Association and the Indiana Judges Association Civil
 7   Instructions Committee; and
 8       Whereas, It is appropriate that the portion of State Road
 9   218 from County Road 500 E in Cass County to US 31 in
10   Miami County commemorate Judge Richard Maughmer and his
11   many contributions to the State of Indiana and the United
12   States of America: Therefore,
13       Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
14       of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
15                            concurring:
16       SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
17   Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the section of
18   State Road 218 from County Road 500 E in Cass County to US
19   31 in Miami County as the "The Honorable Richard A.
20   Maughmer Highway".
21       SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is directed to
22   transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Commissioner of the
23   Indiana Department of Transportation.

                      COMMITTEE REPORT
     Madam President: The Senate Committee on Homeland Security
and Transportation, to which was referred Senate Concurrent
Resolution No. 8, has had the same under consideration and begs leave
to report the same back to the Senate with the recommendation that
said resolution DO PASS.
