1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring State Representative
2 Woody Burton.
3 Whereas, Representative Woody Burton has faithfully served
4 the Indiana House of Representative since 1988, representing
5 House District 58;
6 Whereas, Representative Burton has been married to his
7 wife, Volley, for 38 years and with whom he has three children
8 and six grandchildren;
9 Whereas, Representative Burton's education includes
10 graduate realtor, Reppert School of Auctioneering, certified
11 residential broker, and certified residential specialist;
12 Whereas, During his time in the legislature, Representative
13 Burton has served as chair of the House Financial Institutions

1 Committee, and he has also been a member of the Education
2 Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and the Committee on
3 Rules and Legislative Procedures;
4 Whereas, Representative Burton is involved in the
5 community as a member of the National Association of Realtors
6 and Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors, and he is
7 involved in the Masonic Lodge, Murat and Franklin Shrine
8 Clubs, and Scottish Rite, 33rd degree;
9 Whereas, Representative Burton was the driving force
10 behind the "In God We Trust" state license plate, which is an
11 option available to Hoosiers at no extra charge;
12 Whereas, Representative Burton's passion for helping others,
13 especially children, has led him to champion legislation
14 supporting students with dyslexia and increasing accountability
15 in the child welfare system;
16 Whereas, Representative Burton played a key role in passing
17 numerous laws supporting property tax relief, creating
18 transparency within homeowners associations and providing a
19 13th check for public employee pensions;
20 Whereas, He also co-authored legislation to fight bullying in
21 schools by establishing bullying prevention programs;
22 Whereas, Representative Burton has received many awards
23 over the years, including Legislator of the Year from the
24 Indiana Bankers Association, an Appreciation Award from the
25 Indiana Driver's School Association, the Indiana Chamber
26 Voice of Indiana Business Award from the Indiana Small
27 Business Council of Indiana Chamber of Commerce,
28 Outstanding Hoosier Legislator from the Indiana Credit Union
29 League, a Youth Advocate Award from Johnson County Youth
30 Services, an Autism Commitment Award from Indiana Autism
31 Community, Recognition of Outstanding Leadership and
32 Devotion of Service to Hoosier Veterans and their Families, an
33 Appreciation Award from Disabled American Veterans, a
34 Certificate of Appreciation from the Central Nine Career
35 Center, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor from the National
36 Ethnic Coalition of Organizations, the Dyslexia Champion

1 Award from Pinnacle School, and more; and
2 Whereas, Representative Burton has served Indiana as a
3 compassionate public servant, always putting the needs of
4 Hoosiers first, and has stayed true to his faith and conservative
5 principles: Therefore,
6 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
7 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
8 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
9 honors State Representative Woody Burton for his years of
10 service.
11 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
12 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to
13 Representative Robert Behning for distribution.
