Amends the Newborn Metabolic Screening Act. Requires the Department of Public Health to provide all newborns with screening tests for the presence of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Requires the testing to begin within 6 months following the occurrence of specified milestones. Allows the Department to require payment of an additional fee for the provision of Duchenne muscular dystrophy screening tests. Contains other provisions. Effective immediately.
Senate Committee Amendment No. 1: Amends the Illinois Public Aid Code. Provides that, notwithstanding any other provision of the Code, the medical assistance program shall, subject to federal approval, also reimburse hospitals for costs associated with all newborn screening tests added on and after the effective date of the amendatory Act to the Newborn Metabolic Screening Act and required to be performed under that Act at a rate not less than the fee charged by the Department of Public Health.
House Committee Amendment No. 1: Further amends the Newborn Metabolic Screening Act. Makes subject to appropriation the requirement that the Department of Public Health provide all newborns with screening tests for the presence of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Further amends the Medical Assistance Article of the Illinois Public Aid Code. Makes subject to appropriation the requirement that the Department of Healthcare and Family Services reimburse hospitals for costs associated with all newborn screening tests for the presence of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
