The bill establishes a new legislative task force known as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to enhance governance efficiency in Idaho. This task force will consist of nine members, including three representatives from the House, three from the Senate, and three from the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee, with appointments made by various legislative leaders. The task force is mandated to meet at least twice a year, with the initial members appointed by July 1, 2025, serving until November 30, 2026, and subsequent members serving one-year terms. The task force will focus on reviewing agency functions, regulatory processes, and budget authority to promote fiscal responsibility and accountability.
Additionally, the DOGE task force is authorized to create three subgroups that will concentrate on regulatory accountability, budget accountability, and government operations and oversight. These subgroups will evaluate and recommend improvements in their respective areas, aiming to eliminate inefficiencies and redundancies in government operations. The task force is set to operate until November 30, 2029, after which it will be dissolved, and the provisions of this act will become null and void. An emergency clause is included, allowing the act to take effect immediately upon passage and approval.
