This bill amends Section 49-402 of the Idaho Code to include a reference to a new section and establishes a new commemorative license plate for the USS Idaho SSN 799. The new Section 49-420T allows vehicle owners to apply for these special plates starting January 1, 2026, provided their vehicle is registered under the relevant provisions. The bill specifies that the commemorative plates will not be available for vehicles with a registered maximum gross weight over 26,000 pounds and outlines the fees associated with the initial issuance and annual renewal of the plates, which are set at $35 and $25, respectively. These fees will be deposited into the state highway account to help fund the program.

Additionally, the design of the USS Idaho SSN 799 commemorative license plate will feature the text "USS IDAHO" and "SSN 799 THE GEM OF THE FLEET," along with an image of the submarine. The bill also allows for the transfer of these special plates to another vehicle upon payment of transfer fees and exempts the plates from certain requirements outlined in Section 49-402D. The act declares an emergency, making it effective on July 1, 2025.
