This bill amends Chapter 1, Title 33 of the Idaho Code by adding a new section, 33-143, which mandates the display of the Ten Commandments in educational institutions that receive public funding in Idaho. The bill defines "educational institution" as any school under the supervision of the state board of education or the board of regents of the University of Idaho. It requires these institutions to display a durable poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments in a conspicuous location, specifying that the display must be at least 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall, and include the text of the Ten Commandments in a legible format.
Additionally, the bill outlines provisions for institutions that do not currently have a compliant display, stating they must accept privately donated copies that meet the specified requirements and display them accordingly. If an institution possesses a non-compliant display, it may replace it with a compliant one through private donations. The bill also allows for the donation of excess compliant displays to other educational institutions. An emergency clause is included, making the act effective on July 1, 2025.
