This bill amends Idaho Code by adding two new sections, 54-1411A and 54-1808A, which establish continuing education credits for nurse preceptors and physician/physician assistant preceptors, respectively. Under these provisions, primary care health professionals renewing their licenses must track and report hours spent mentoring graduate students in qualified rural areas over the past two years. Preceptors who dedicate 360 hours or more in this capacity will receive credit in the form of continuing education or practice hours, as determined by the respective boards of nursing or medicine.
The bill defines key terms such as "graduate student," "preceptor," "preceptorship," "primary care," and "qualified rural area," ensuring clarity in the implementation of these new requirements. The legislation aims to promote preceptorship experiences in underserved areas, thereby enhancing the training of future healthcare professionals. An emergency clause is included, making the act effective on July 1, 2025.
