This bill amends Section 59-502 of the Idaho Code to revise the salary structure for judges, specifically the justices of the supreme court. The current salary of $169,508 will be increased to $181,374, effective July 1, 2024. The bill outlines a series of salary increases for the justices over the following years, with the salary set to rise to $194,070 on July 1, 2026, $207,655 on July 1, 2027, and finally to $222,190 on July 1, 2028. Additionally, the salaries of judges in the court of appeals, district judges, and magistrate judges are adjusted relative to the supreme court justices' salaries.
The bill also includes provisions for the payment of salaries, which must be made on a regular basis, at least monthly, and stipulates that no judge shall receive their salary unless they have taken an oath confirming that there are no pending matters in their hands that have been submitted for their consideration for at least 30 days prior to taking the oath. An emergency clause is included, declaring that the act will take effect on July 1, 2025.
