This bill amends Section 66-906 of the Idaho Code, which pertains to the succession of property for deceased residents of veterans homes. The amendment establishes that upon the death of a member who has no heirs, all intangible property owned by the member will be transferred to the unclaimed property division within the office of the state treasurer within one year of the member's death. The bill also clarifies that any tangible property that remains unclaimed for thirty days after the member's death or discharge will be exempt from the revised unclaimed property act and will be assigned to the state veterans home.

Additionally, the bill removes previous provisions that allowed for the reclamation of the deceased member's property by any legatee or person entitled to inheritance within five years of the member's death, unless the member had specified in writing that the property should be donated to the division of veterans services. The administrator of the division of veterans services is tasked with updating the membership application form to inform applicants of these changes and to obtain their consent to the new terms. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025, due to an emergency declaration.
