This bill amends Section 33-5905 of the Idaho Code to revise the composition and terms of the Idaho School Safety and Security Advisory Board. The number of members on the board is reduced from thirteen to six, with specific appointments including two members appointed by the governor—one being a person currently employed as an emergency responder and the other a member at large. The state superintendent of public instruction or their designee will continue to serve, along with one representative appointed by the state board of education and two legislative representatives, one from the Senate and one from the House. The previous requirement for various representatives from law enforcement and educational associations has been removed.
Additionally, the terms of the advisory board members have been modified, with gubernatorial appointees serving three-year terms, while all other members will serve two-year terms and may continue to serve at the pleasure of their appointing body until reappointed or replaced. The bill also stipulates that vacancies on the board will be filled in the same manner as the original appointment. An emergency clause is included, declaring that the act will take effect on July 1, 2025.
