REVISED
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS30992 / H0547
Current state law exempts the fee for a specialty Purple Heart license plate to only those recipients of a Purple
Heart who are also disabled. This bill extends that benefit to all Purple Heart recipients whether or not they are
disabled.
FISCAL NOTE
This bill would reduce revenue to the License Plate fund. Under the current License Plate program, there are
100 disabled Purple Heart recipients with no-charge plates (99 vehicles and 1 motorcycle) out of a total of
1,676 plates (1,619 vehicles and 57 motorcycles). By extending the benefit to all Purple Heart recipients, the
cost per plate of $3.75 for vehicles and motor cycles would be eliminated, resulting in a reduction to the fund
of approximately $6,285.
