STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS29268C1 / H0540
Existing Idaho law, I.C. 39-6316, requires law enforcement responding to domestic violence calls provide
written information to victims about the availability of victim services. This includes shelter as well as advises
victims they have the right to ask the prosecuting attorney to file a criminal complaint. This legislation amends
existing statute by simply adding sexual assault victims so they will also be made aware of victim services and
the right to ask for a complaint to be filed by responding officers.
FISCAL NOTE
No impact to the General Fund. Written materials are currently provided by the Idaho Council on Domestic
Violence and Victim Assistance to law enforcement and paid for with federal grant dollars or dedicated funds;
the materials are already required by statute and can be easily modified to incorporate this change.
