This bill amends current law to include career and technical education instructors as eligible for supplementary weighting when school districts share operational functions with another political subdivision. Specifically, it adds career and technical education instructors to the list of positions that qualify for supplementary weighting, which is intended to provide additional funding to enhance student opportunities and redirect resources to student programming. Under the new provisions, a school district that shares the operational function of a career and technical education instructor for at least 20 percent of the school year will receive a supplementary weighting of two pupils.
Additionally, the bill defines a career and technical education instructor as a licensed teacher with a career and technical endorsement for grades five through twelve, covering various fields such as agriculture, family consumer sciences, industrial technology, business, or information technology, or as an individual holding a career and technical education authorization for the same grade levels. This inclusion aims to support the sharing of educational resources and improve access to career and technical education for students in Iowa.
