The Senate Resolution honors the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) on its 100th anniversary, celebrating its founding in 1926. As the largest nonprofit animal shelter in Iowa, the ARL is dedicated to protecting animal welfare, preserving the human-animal bond, and preventing the overpopulation of companion animals. Each year, the organization cares for over 13,000 animals, successfully reuniting 1,776 pets with their owners and placing a record 9,244 pets into new homes.

In addition to its sheltering efforts, the ARL provides a variety of programs aimed at supporting pet owners, including low-cost veterinary services, pet behavior training, and education on responsible pet ownership. Since 2005, the ARL has collaborated with the city of Des Moines and other central Iowa municipalities to offer essential animal services to their communities. The resolution acknowledges the significant impact the ARL has had on the lives of both animals and people in Iowa over the past century.
