This bill amends Section 359.43 of the Iowa Code to expand the authorized uses of funds from the township fire protection levy. Currently, township trustees can allocate up to thirty cents per thousand dollars of assessed property value annually to a reserve account for purchasing or replacing supplies and equipment necessary for fire protection and emergency services. The new language allows these reserved funds to also be used for constructing a fire station, thereby broadening the scope of how the funds can be utilized to enhance fire protection services in the township.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that any interest earned on the moneys in the reserve account will also be credited to that account, ensuring that the funds can grow over time. This change aims to provide townships with greater flexibility and resources to improve their fire protection infrastructure and services, ultimately benefiting the communities they serve.
