This bill amends Section 123.176 of the Iowa Code to increase the number of class C retail alcohol licenses or special class C retail native wine licenses that can be granted to a native winery. Under current law, a native winery is limited to a maximum of two such licenses. The new legislation allows for a maximum of three licenses, thereby providing native wine manufacturers with greater flexibility in their retail operations.
The class C retail alcohol license permits the purchase, sale, and on-premises consumption of alcoholic beverages, as well as the sale of these beverages in original unopened containers for off-premises consumption. Similarly, the special class C retail native wine license allows for the sale of beer and native wine for both on-premises and off-premises consumption. This bill does not alter the licensing provisions for native distillers and native brewers, focusing solely on the licensing for native wineries.
